DNB PROGRAMME AT MCV ENT TRUST HOSPITAL

MCV ENT Trust Hospital is well known for its academic side in the ENT field. National level teaching program ENSICON workshop is being held here since 1991. The Senior consultant organizes and participates as faculty in many ENT surgical workshops and conferences. In this basically teaching setup 20 to 30% of case load is subsidized by the ENT Trust and such patients will be provided surgical care by the resident ENT Doctors/DNB Trainees.

A DNB Trainee can expect 6 to 10 surgical procedures every month independently/supervised. With this type of exposure with academic background the candidates will find it easy to face the DNB final exams successfully. Most importantly they will be able to function as fully trained ENT surgeons who can do endoscopic sinus surgery, Micro ear, phono surgeries and Head & Neck surgery. They will be exposed and trained in Laser Equipment, Radio Frequency, Micro Debrider Equipments in the OT.

Hospital also has Temporal bone and Larynx dissection laboratories for the trainee.

SELECTION PROCESS

  • The course starts either in the first quarter or in the middle of the accademic year [ JAN / AUG ].

  • The advertisement will be placed in the leading newspaper for BROAD SPECIALITIES (ENT) within a short time of release of CET results from National Board of Examinations New Delhi.

  • The selection is purely on merit. For Primary Pass / CET candidates, only an interview will be held. For post diploma candidates an entrance test will be held, followed by an interview.

  • During the interview, assessment will be made on candidate's aptitude and communication skills. 

TRAINING FEES

Training fees of Rs.50,000/- each year had to be paid by the candidate as specified by NBE.

ACCOMODATION

Accomodation will be provided inside the hospital for bachelor/family quarters.

TEACHING PROGRAMME 

The duration of the course for ENT- 

Primary / CET Pass candidates 

- 3 years

Post Diploma Pass 

- 2 years

Teaching is done regularly by recognised teachers at the bedside. Theory classes, CME programmes, Mortality Meetings, Medical Audits, Workshops are conducted by the concerned clinical specialities. The candidates will be posted in the allied specialities also to have good exposure in their field.

The hospital will conduct assessment tests once in six months. The assessment would (by short essay type questions) would cover theoretical knowledge, clinical skills, procedural skills, communication skills, knowledge of health care system, ethical & legal issues. The exams will be conducted by the institution under supervision of local appraisers.

A log book will be maintained by the candidate. Based on that, the progress of thesis work will be assessed. The local appraisers will study the log book entries and then will send report to NBE Training Monitoring Cell.

TRAINING IN BASIC SCIENCES 

The hospital will arrange for appropriate number of lectures, demonstrations / group discussions / seminars in basic sciences as related to the specialty concerned.

A mandatory one month rotation training will be given each year (in addition to the routine duties) in the laboratories to enable them to gain knowledge in subjects like Pathology, Histopathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, etc

This will also be conducted for the candidates in conjunction with PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, though not mandatory. 

LIBRARY

A well-equipped library is available in the hospital. Online internet facility is also available. The candidates are also eligible for using extensive library facility at PSG IMS&R.
